What is a Superfood?

Superfood. The word comes up often. You can probably even list a handful of them, but do you really know what it means?

Superfoods are a group of foods considered by some experts to be dietary standouts because they are nutrient dense and can be extremely beneficial to your health. The idea is that superfoods provide you with powerful healing benefits by supplying key nutrients that are critical for optimal health. It is often said that adding these foods to your diet can improve health with few, if any, side effects. Possibly the most noteworthy fact about these nutritional helpers is that you can incorporate them into your diet relatively easily; no supplements to buy or prescriptions from a doctor required.  Some argue that the word is just a marketing gimmick, but whether you use the term or not, no one can deny that some foods are better for you than others. They just pack more punch.

Among frequently listed superfoods you will find several Garden Fresh Gourmet ingredients including: tomato, avocado, black beans, garlic, and sweet potato.

Whether you buy into the Superfood hype or not, having more fresh fruits and veggies in your diet is better!  That is one thing upon which all the experts agree.
